Rakesh
Ratan Nath started his career as a figurative painter and further worked his
way to abstraction. His work still retains traces of figurative painting. Each
small section that makes up the whole is individually bloated and abstracted.
When put together in a grid, these sections act as a whole and unconscious
patterns emerge. They become coherent. He likes to alternate between the
abstract and representational. He has tried to incorporate the oriental
sensuous reminiscent of Amrita Shergil.
In
his work, oil and acrylic were mostly the medium of expression. However, in his
abstract paintings, materials like mat have been used to create textures,
layering and highlighting methods are used to manipulating materials. This is
done to realize the full potential in each material being used.
